New Music Release
A month ago I received a new delay pedal, and immediately began trying out some ambient sounds. Without meaning to, I stumbled across a chorale-like melody. With the ambience of the sound and the timing, it sounded so peaceful and still. As a musician and composer, I try to write music that takes me forward in an attitude or perspective. I do not practice stillness or solitude very well, and when I do it is typically in a musical environment. I wanted to write this as a way to remind others, as well as myself, to take a minute to be still. Pray, reflect, think, and appreciate the things you have and the people around you.
I am going to be a father in June, and it's been an interesting experience to see how I view the world change as I think about my child. What kind of person will he be? What can I do to help him be the best version of himself? In what ways will I let him down? How can I help him not make the same mistakes I have? Those are just a few of the thoughts that have wandered through my mind the past few months, and it's in those still moments, no matter how brief, that I begin to feel the peace that it will be alright.
I decided to try to write, record, mix, and master the whole song myself and to do it as quickly as possible, and I am pleased to say I am proud of my work. I am still learning how to mix well, and this song feels like one of my best mixes to date. I recorded all the parts you hear except for the drums, which were performed and recorded by Joshua Warren.
"Still" will be released Friday, February 26th on various platforms, including iTunes and Amazon. If you would like to help me continue to create music, please consider purchasing the song off of Bandcamp or Noisetrade, and also sharing the music with people you know who might enjoy it. I am sending four other songs to a professional mixing engineer for an EP called "What Is Above", and any financial support from you buying "Still" would help me greatly.
